After a yoga program athletes report:
Statistic: Girls are 6 to 8 times more likely to suffer a knee injury than boys who play similar sports.
During an all female class at Athlete Yoga, strong attention is given to the alignment of the arches, knees, and tailbone. This, in addition to building the leg muscles, will greatly decrease the risk of a knee injury for a female athlete who regularly practices yoga.
Confident balance will occur when an athlete involves his/her entire body and mind.
Athletes will learn breath control and breathing techniques. Taken off the yoga mat these skills will keep them in the present moment when engaged in their sport, and not holding onto thoughts of past mistakes or negative future thoughts. They will practice staying in the moment and keeping their energy focused as opposed to wild.
Proper alignment and body awareness from head to toe, tight and strong stabilizing muscles, and a focused mind are all practiced during balancing sequences at Athlete Yoga.
Slowing movements down and aligning the entire body from head to toe, forces the athlete to pay closer attention to individual parts and learn about body awareness. Particulary beneficial to younger athletes.
Balanced athletes have greater athletic potential....
We will stretch the strong muscles and strengthen the weak ones.
The stronger an athlete is, the more muscle mass they have, so the more they need to not only stretch those muscles but also build the complimentary muscle(s) to avoid pulls, strains, twists, sprains, and breaks. Yoga provides the balance needed to maintain an athlete's current condition and pave the way new growth and potential.
When motions are repeated over and over again, certain muscle groups and joints are used and others are not. This creates in inbalance in the body and opens the flood gates for injury.
When a coach chooses the heated studio option the entire yoga class is enhanced - mentally and physically. Physically, when the body is warm it will stretch and bend to greater lengths, allowing for a more intense workout. Mentally, the athletes will practice staying relaxed while under high heat conditions and intense physical exertion. This is an excellent option for teams who have future travel plans out-of-State and are looking to replicate hotter climates.
